40 labor-hours / week: how service robots paid back in 11 months
A Pleasanton hotel deployed Wholly-engineered delivery robots. The ROI math, the staff reaction, and the lessons.
A Pleasanton hotel deployed four Wholly-engineered delivery robots. Here is the ROI math, the staff reaction, and the lessons we learned.
The setup
144-room hotel. 4 service robots for housekeeping supply runs (linen, toiletries, ice), room-service delivery (3 floors), and after-hours lobby-to-room delivery. We built the dock, wrote the dispatch logic, and trained the staff.
The numbers
Labor saved: 40 hours per week (housekeeping + room-service combined). Cost: 4 robots + dock + continuous monitoring = $4,800/monthly. Labor cost replaced (at $22 per hour loaded): $3,520/monthly. Net impact: $1,280/monthly after service. Project finance availables.
The staff reaction
Housekeeping staff loved the supply runs (the heaviest physical task). Front desk loved the late-night deliveries (their most thankless shift). The robots freed humans for guest-facing service.
What we learned
Elevator integration is the hard part — every elevator brand is a custom integration. Plan a commissioning window. Train your staff in writing; verbal handoffs get lost.
