What bidirectional actually means
A bidirectional EV charger (also called V2H or V2L) can discharge your EV battery into your home. A 130 kWh Cybertruck can power a typical house for 8–10 days. A 131 kWh Ford Lightning, similar. Most modern EVs do not yet support it.
What works today
Wallbox Quasar 2 paired with a Ford F-150 Lightning or a Hyundai Ioniq 5/6. The Quasar is bidirectional, the cars accept the discharge, and the Wallbox app manages dispatch.
What is coming
Tesla Cybertruck and Cyberquad with V2H (mid-2026 firmware). Chevrolet Silverado EV (Q4 2026). Lucid Gravity (Q1 2027). Every major OEM has announced V2H by 2028.
How to plan
If you are installing EV charging now, run a 60-amp circuit (not 50). Add a sub-panel with critical-loads isolation. Pre-wire the Wallbox mounting location. The marginal cost is small; the retrofit cost is enormous.
